New Evidence on Dangers of Cell PhonesViews: 1236

I am not saying you should not use a cell phone. But, you would be wise not to carry it in you pocket or hold it close to your ears. Reason? The RF waves can be harmful over time. Check out this video as evidence - ABC News.

There is little foundation for this. I wonder if teh News channels are just scared we will ignore them and get all our info from our smart phones?
The amount of RF is very slight, you get more by nature RF in the atmosphere.
Also when did they broadcast that segement?

Scott,

This ABC interview is recent. That's a medical doctor talking to Diane Sawyer.

So one or two Doctors make claims without empirical evidence. There is not enough power to do this.

Scott,

Did you watch the video? If you watched the video you would come to understand that when using a Nokia N810 you are not vulnerable to the cell phone signal problems because Nokia smartly designed the device NOT to be help up to your ear. The problem is having the device close to your body. Therefore, if you are traveling with a cell phone you want to make doubly sure you do not want to leave it on and in your pocket. This is what the doctor said.

Remember there were once doctors who said smoking was good for you. It reduced stress.

Scott,

Bottom line, you think this doctor is mistaken. The doctor went on national television and simply voiced his opinion. All the specific instructions he gave to his audience might as well be ignored. Why? Because the doctor is mistaken. Is that about it?

Recently Doctors also have stated that women should not get screen for breats cancer until 50. Do you think they are correct? They got on national TV also.
Juts because they got on national tv does not mean anything. I know from science that it is nonsense. We would have seen huge upticks in the past ten years in brain cancer.
Cell phones have been used since the late 70's . That is almost 40 years of exposure. It has been a mass maeket item since the mid 90's. Again 15 years.
Why do you think they say such things?

I have to agree with Scott. Just because a doctor is on TV doesn't make it right. 5 years ago had they decided to state that women shouldn't get regular mamograms until they are 50, my mom would have died from breast cancer. Luckily she started getting mamograms when she was 40. They found her cancer early and was able to treat her so she is still here with us.

excerpt from a pdf paper on Cell Phone radiation:

Doctor Igor Belyaev (Institute of General Physics, Russian Academy of Science) studied
effects of microwave exposure on DNA repair foci in human stem cells. In his opinion, recent data
indicate that microwaves (MW) from mobile phones inhibit DNA repair foci in human primary cells
of different types: lymphocytes, fibroblasts and mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) derived from adult
human adipose tissue while the strongest effects were observed in MSC cells. Importantly, the same
GSM carrier frequency (915 MHz) and UMTS frequency band (1947.4 MHz, middle channel) was
effective for all cell types, while another GSM signal (905 MHz) did not affect cells. Recent data
suggest that different cancer types including leukemia have a fundamentally common basis that is
grounded on epigenetic changes in stem cells. Therefore, our experimental findings regarding effects
of microwaves on stem cells may be important for cancer risk assessment. Interestingly enough,
exposure to extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic fields results in similar biological effects
as exposures to microwaves. In our studies, both ELF and MW exposures inhibited formation of
DNA repair foci in human lymphocytes. ELF exposure has been reported in many epidemiological
studies to be associated with the increased children leukemia. On the other hand, no association of
ELF exposure with leukemia in adults was found. This discrepancy has not yet been clarified at the
mechanistic basis while ELF was classified as a possible carcinogen based on these studies. It is
known, that stem cells are more active in children as compared to adults. This activity may clarify the
differences between results obtained in ELF-leukemia studies with children and adults. Respectively,
elevated cancer risk may be expected in children from microwave exposure.

Ron,

If I understand the Russian doctor's findings concerning cell phone radiation, what he is telling us is that children are at a bigger risk than adults when it comes to cell phone use. Is that a proper assessment of the doctor's findings?
