My old desktop won't start. Mobo is (2002) MSI K7T266 pro2 AMD Athlon XP Palamino 1800+.

Thought it was a p/s because it had an exploded resistor and a cap that also blew top off and ribbons of foil tape were showing. I replaced the 320 wt PSU with a 550wt unit.

Still no power.
Momentary ON switch tested - good.
All power connections - good.

Read that if cpu fan is open, power will not turn on. Fan was changed. Still no power.

Is the next failed component to suspect the Athlon XP chip?

Do all mobo's have some sort of power indicator led? I don't see one.
